About the Choir
Little Lyrics is a fun, friendly choir for young singers who want to develop their voices, meet new people and enjoy performing together. Run by KO Music Academy, the choir welcomes young people who enjoy singing and want to explore their musical potential in a supportive environment. Whether they already love to perform or are looking to build their confidence, members can learn new skills while being part of a team.
The choir helps members develop good singing technique, including breath control, vocal support and the ability to harmonise with others. Singing together encourages young people to listen, work as a group and grow in confidence, both musically and personally. New songs are introduced each term, and members can even suggest songs they would like to sing, helping keep rehearsals varied, enjoyable and relevant to their interests.
Little Lyrics enjoys a varied repertoire, including pop, musical theatre and contemporary songs. The choir also takes part in concerts, charity events, competitions and festivals, giving members opportunities to share their hard work with audiences and gain valuable performance experience. These occasions help young singers develop stage confidence, celebrate their progress and enjoy the excitement of performing as part of a group.
The choir is led by Kerry O’Connor of KO Music Academy, whose musical journey began with piano lessons at the age of six and later expanded to singing, music theory and flute. Kerry studied music at GCSE and A-level before going on to Chichester University to study music with instrumental and vocal teaching. She has completed ABRSM examinations and diplomas in classical, theatre and popular music, and has more than ten years’ teaching experience, working with learners from beginners through to diploma and degree level. Kerry leads Little Lyrics and arranges the harmonies and music for the choir’s concerts and competitions.
Little Lyrics meets on Fridays from 5pm to 6pm at Aldingbourne Social Club, within Aldingbourne Community Sports Centre, and is aimed at young people aged 12–17.
